We hope you find one you like. Come try out and we'll see you in the game!
Maybe rough and tumble isn't your style. That's no problem! If you're interested in something aside from an athletic activity, Vulture Peak offers various after-school clubs. Just to name a few, we have:
National Junior Honor Society
Miss Elsner is the advisor for The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), a branch of the National Honor Society. NJHS was founded in 1929, and is designed to recognize middle school students who exhibit the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. NJHS members at Vulture Peak must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher to be eligible. Students who meet this minimum GPA requirement must then submit an application packet to the NJHS advisor, who will share it with the Vulture Peak Faculty Leadership Team. The faculty members of Vulture Peak decide whether or not to vote a student into NJHS based on the qualities specified above. NJHS members must pay annual dues, attend all NJHS meetings, and perform the national requirement of three hours of community service for each year they are a member.
Scrapbook Club
This year Mrs. Schuck will work with students in Scrap Club to make their scrap book pages POP! Each meeting will focus on using materials such as stamps, ribbon, silk flowers, and chalk to enrich their pages. Materials such as double sided tape, pattern paper, cardstock, photos, and a book to put finished pages in will need to be provided by the student. The Scrap Club currently has some supplies that can be used by all Scrap Club members.
Art and Clay Club
Mrs. Holt is sponsoring the Art and Clay Club again this year. Students will meet several times a month to try their hands at new and creative art techniques.
Student Council
Vulture Peak Student Council is sponsored by the 8th grade team: Ms. Dolan, Mrs. Dierks, Mrs. Cole, and Miss Warren. The student council members are responsible for planning many events at Vulture Peak such as dances, movie nights, spirit weeks, pep assemblies, and even food drives. Yearbook
The yearbook class meets during 8th hour with Mrs. Winzeler. The yearbook staff consists of two 6th grade students, two 7th grade students, and three 8th grade students. These students are responsible for putting the entire yearbook together. They take pictures during school, at sporting events, to designing their own pages in full color.
The yearbook will be on sale from October until the middle of March. In order to make certain you receive a yearbook, remember to place your order before the middle of March. Yearbooks will be given to students during the last week of school.
Band
Mr. Britton makes band more than just playing an instrument. The program begins in 6th grade, and is best enjoyed as a seven year adventure. Brave participants are guaranteed to make strong friendships, hone leadership skills, and be challenged each and every day. Learning an instrument is really quite easy, but it MUST be done right by starting at the beginning of the year and never ending! For this reason, two classes are offered: 6th Period Concert Band and 7th Period Eagle Band. The concert band is for students who are just starting to get serious about music, while the Eagle Band is for advanced players. Eagle Band members also have the opportunity to play with Wickenburg High School pep band at this year's football games.
The Vulture Peak band includes Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto and Tenor Saxaphone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion.
Choir
The Vulture Peak Choir is a combined group of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with a strong focus on beginning choral music skills and basic music theory. Any student with a love of music is welcome to join in on the fun! Students in this class will learn the basics of what it takes to become a well rounded musician as well as have fun singing great literature from many different genres. Students will showcase their skills twice a year at the Holiday and Spring Pops Concerts held at the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts. The Vulture Peak Chorus is conducted by Mrs. Cleveland.
Chess Club
This year Mr. Newman is starting a student Chess Club. The Chess Club is made up of students from all three grades at Vulture Peak. Our purpose is to provide a place for students to learn and play chess. We meet the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 3:10 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Math Counts
Mrs. Brackney is leading the Vulture Peak Math Counts team again this year. Math Counts is a competitive math team that meets daily to practice and refine their math skills. The team is working towards their goal of making it to the state competition that will be held in the Spring.
